I consider myself to be supportive of LGBT people, and I think they deserve 100% of the same rights as straight people. Yet I can't seem to come to terms with the possibility that I might be one of them. I can't get over the feeling that I would be letting down my family by not having the life they expect of me. :(

I, uh, don't really have any advice because I'm in exactly the same boat as you and I don't know what to do about.

But hang in there. We can make it. We'll be all right.

I was in your position once and I chose to do what my family wanted. It wasn't the right choice for me. My life may still have been miserable and I might still have a lot of what ifs but I truly believe that I would at least be able to take comfort in knowing that I chose to live my life for myself instead of my family.

like the quote says, when you're dead and in the ground, that's it. your family members whose opinions you're worried about might outlive you, and their lives would continue– their children's lives will continue. yours will be over. it would be a shame to live for someone else, because no one else will take your place for you when it's time to go.
