She was protecting Jane, and the shit Jane had gotten into. Had she been alone she probably won't not have stopped to fight knowing, although badass, she's still mortal.

Did it effect Thor and Loki? Yes. It's their fucking mom. The same way Odin being fucked in the first movie effected that plot.

The post referenced the first movie, where we definitely know that Odin didn't die, so his death was not and could not have been used as a plot device to motivate anyone.
