Re: Non-fandom confessions gooooo

As a woman, I'm so fucking sick of looking bald. I fucking hate it. I used to have such thick hair but it started falling out at an alarming rate and the only thing I did different was take the advice of hair dressers, who told me I needed to scrub my scalp with shampoo and shit. (Well not shit obviously.) Now it's gross and thin and it's been that way for like 7 years. I never scrubbed my scalp for any reason. Now I have to in order to get new hair to grow. Only it doesn't fucking stay because my scalp has gone through crazy periods of itching non-stop to the occasional bout of what feels like gonorrhea of the head.

I've gotten a little better about it, only a little. I've resorted to chlorine/chloramine filters and hair thickening shampoo/conditioners that don't contain sulfates. (And before you ask, yes, I've done every damn treatment under the sun: baking soda/vinegar, tea tree shampoo, just conditioner, gentle soap, ezcema product, lemon grass shampoo, Nioxin treatment, to just not using any product at all and waiting to see if there was a change. Basically everything except for Rogaine, which I NEVER want to use due to its nature of working when you use it, and then your hair getting thin again when you stop.) It works for a while, but if the schedule of every two days gets altered by even a little bit, I'm back to square one.

I'm fucking frustrated and wish I could see a dermatologist but my insurance is shit and I'm not sure if they could help or just prescribe something that exacerbates a problem initially born out of my own stupidity.

Okay, I don't know the situation, but it really doesn't sound like this was caused by anything you did? Sometimes people just have conditions that makes their hair fall out. You shouldn't blame yourself...

And I'm really sorry that you're going through this and that you can't see a dermatologist about it. :(

I never scrubbed my scalp. Just applied shampoo, conditioner, etc, rinsed it out. When I started scrubbing it, hair started falling out. I'd go back to not scrubbing, but the scalp won't regrow the hair and it will still itch like hell every now and then. I keep telling myself patience, but it's been so long I don't think it'll ever get back to even average thickness.

But thanks for kind words, anon.

Sometimes I feel like hairdressers don't fucking know what they are talking about and should be avoided as a rule. My mom's whole generation of black women whose scalps are terminally fucked up (including my mom's) so somebody could make a profit are evidence of that.

I'm sorry, because this sounds like it sucks. :( It might be tricky depending on your insurance, but have you spoken with your regular doctor about this? Some conditions (like thyroid imbalance) can cause hair loss and they can be tested for with blood screening and treated.

anon you may want to look into getting your liver health tested, keeping a healthy liver has a direct effect on your hair health, and a poorly kept liver can lead to hair thinning and loss
