Dude, nobody goes into pregnancy/babies confident, but don't *dwell* on it. I got pissed at people when i was pregnant because it seemed like everyone just *had* tell me some horror story about their aunt or sister or neighbor or whoever who had a five-day labor and their legs fell off or *something*. It was ridiculous.

So i shut all that down, stopped even pretending to listen, and talked to my midwife when i had question. Had my daughter at home, no drugs, no worries, it wasn't a big deal. Kept our cats, cleaned the litter box, ate whatever. I don't generally take anything besides aspirin and benedryl, so medications weren't an issue.

Basically - if you find yourself pregnant - be calm, rest, ask questions of *professionals*, take the stories from co-workers with a grain of salt, and DO NOT DWELL.

Also - until my daughter was five days old, i'd never changed a diaper in my life, and had never fed or bathed a baby before that, either. So - you know - you'll figure it out.

That is the strangest impulse. I've witnessed it when my friends and my sister were pregnant; people would just spontaneously start talking about labor horror stories and rare birth defects like it was some kind of bizarre allergic reaction to pregnancy. I'd be like, "Hey, guys, do you want to talk about bunnies or something instead?" and they'd be like, ha ha, BIRTH IS A NIGHTMARE, but I'm sure you'll be fine; don't worry, Here, let's google some pictures of inside-out fetuses; it's rare, so you'll feel extra reassured! BABIES ARE A MIRACLE; I had 82 stitches with my first!

So you have my sympathies :\

"Don't dwell" and "You'll figure it out" is difficult advice to follow, but good advice, I think.

It's infuriating! It's like 'ha, let me tell you, i had to give birth walking uphill in a snowstorm and then worked in the fields all day with the newborn strapped to my boob!!' I don't get the impulse.

Yeah, it's difficult *not* to dwell, but the more you worry and imagine things, the more you stress and that's not good. I've always been a glass-half-full person, though, so maybe it's easier for me.
