I agree (apart from the 'boring nod'. I don't think it's boring but lovely). Pertwee is my favourite Doctor, so I like the nod to his era, there doesn't need to be anything rebel-ish about the Doctor's outfit (I never thought that Ten or even Eleven appeared all that rebellious in their outfits either. To be honest, the last time a Doctor might have seen rebellious in his choice of outfit was Six), it's tons better than another boring suit and I'm super excited for our new Doctor!

I agree with this. If I'm thinking of a Doctor who I believe chose his outfit as a deliberate act of defiance, of rebellion, Six is the first one to come to mind (though also Three, to an extent). Some of the Doctors seem to choose their clothes as camouflage or to fit a certain image, like the befuddled professor (One, Seven), the harmless, eccentric traveller (Two, Four) or the young innocent (Five), and some seem to choose them as a statement of allegiance (NuWho Doctors seem to choose very human outfits, though Eleven had a touch of Two/Four's 'eccentric traveller' disguise as well).

Six, though, seemed to deliberately choose his outfit to fly in the face of all sense. It wasn't even that he wanted to look eccentric, it was that he wanted to look loud, garish, to look ill-fitting and in your face. I think Six, of all of them, came out of his regeneration angry, given everything that had happened to him as Five, and his outfit echoed that anger. It was brazenly colour-blind, patchwork and jester-like, and I think he did that deliberately. He wanted to be a jarring note against the universe around him, to have people look at him and see that he wasn't even making the pretense of being acceptable or conformist anymore. If the universe was so determined to make a fool of him, well then he'd go out looking like a clown and kick them in the teeth in the process.

Mind you, he seemed to soften up a little bit later. But I do think the costume was part of his initial burst of anger and defiance, and when it comes to rebellious outfits, he's still the first that springs to mind.
