As for Christianity as a whole, pretty much the only thing that defines being a Christian is the belief in the divinity of Jesus and His sacrifice and resurrection...at least that's how I see it. Anything else is, quite frankly, up for debate - there is an ongoing history of debates and splits within Christendom* over other beliefs.
Being against communism is definitely - most definitely - not the defining point of being a republican. You can be against communism and pretty much be in any political party that doesn't support it (or no political party at all). Party affiliation also does not mean that you support every single thing on that party's platform - people are simply not that homogeneous.
*an umbrella term, as outside of Catholicism, Christianity really doesn't have a single human leader, and many denominations/separate churches dislike each other or think they're the One True Church or some such
