For sure. I like some of their songs but I'm always kind of interested whenever I see them wearing their robot masks.

And when I learned that Janelle Monae's Electric Lady is all about an android, I wanted to check it out ASAP.

Androids are cool.

You'll be pleased to know that her other albums follow the same storyline.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-21 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
Was just gonna say this!

It's part of why I love her. Plus, once you learn that it was inspired by 'Metropolis,' you can feel it in the music. It's got a very nostalgic jazz vibe.

Woman is a straight-up geek on top of being a talented musician. So cool.

It helps that she's only a few weeks apart from me birthday wise, not gonna lie.

I like that they're robots, but I'm not really interested in their music.

The gimmick is a big part of why I like them. While their faces don't carry the same charisma, I'd probably still like the music, but the lack of visual idea would make them rather than their work memorable.

I'm the opposite. I don't really give a shit about the robot costumes, I'm following them for the music (like 90% of French people, I know, how original). And I know what they look like anyway (*whispers* like regular late 30s/early 40s white men).

(Anonymous) 2014-02-21 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
I'm baffled that paparazzi want to get their pictures and turn it into a big reveal. It's on Google Images, for god´s sake!
rubbertea: hugh skinner making a ridiculous face while wearing a ridiculous hat (hugh does that hat even exist)

[personal profile] rubbertea 2014-02-21 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
Me too anon. There are interviews on youtube when you can clearly see their face (granted, they are from >10 years ago, but still).

(Anonymous) 2014-02-21 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
Aye. I don't give two craps about the costumes.

I also don't buy their explanation for adopting the robot personas. It's clearly a marketing ploy.

I don't know about that. They certainly stayed true to what they said about not revealing their appearance to the public since they got the helmets in '97.

AYRT

They have, however, the careful cultivation of that level of mystery generates a lot of buzz. It could definitely be that they're sincere about keeping the focus on the music, but it could also be that they've got a lot of restraint when it comes to marketing and they understand that they'll lose something the moment they reveal themselves.

That's true and definitely a possibility. I guess it didn't occur to me because I know about them since the times where they really weren't thinking about marketing.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-21 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Methinks you just want it to be a marketing ploy.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-21 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
I'm just worried that in the distant future (the year 2000) they'll be competing with Bret and Jemaine on the robot music market. Oh well. FOTC will be dead by then anyway.

I got interested in them at first because of the robot appearances too, it was different and I thought it was cool. I like most of what I've heard of their music as well which is a nice bonus.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-21 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
Well I think the robot heads are way more noticeable than if they went without them. But it's also kind of an equalizer... they could be anyone, young, old, black, white, asian and people wouldn't be able to discriminate. Besides, I've seen my share of fangirls who squee over the cuteness of band members. (I will never understand Pete Wentz.)

But I like their music. I would have liked either way as long as I was given the chance to hear it. And if I owe that chance to their robot heads, well them I'm glad other people like them for their robot heads.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-21 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
But they obviously were never real robots, so... I don't get it.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-21 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
Silly you! They were never human, they've always been robots.

lol

(Anonymous) 2014-02-21 04:18 pm (UTC)(link)
But We're human after all ?

I like both their music and their image.

Makes me feel old to see stuff like this and what people have recently sad, though. Did people give a shit back with their older albums?

(Anonymous) 2014-02-21 07:32 am (UTC)(link)
What they mean is they won't have fans who follow just because they're handsome men. They can, as stated above, be ANYONE.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-24 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
But they might have fans who follow just because they're sexy robots.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-21 04:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I love this.
And I love Daft Punk. Forever in my heart!
