Weirdest food cravings you've had

(Anonymous) 2014-02-21 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
Right now I seem to be craving hamantaschen. Which I've had maybe three times in my life, if that, and on a scale with 1 being disgusting and 100 being amazing, I'd rate in the high fifties or low sixties.

Well-made strawberry milk, all day and everyday.

And I hate milk.

I've always wanted to eat laundry powder. I used to crunch it in my fists and imagine eating it.

Some people would consider it weird, but after being hospitalized for a while I can tell you it is the most normal thing in the world to want raw, fresh vegetables and fruit. Any fresh vegetables and fruit.

At least, it is for me.

This happens on road trips, too!

Well, for me. :P

Saaaaame. Crossing the continental USA on a road trip was just about the worst thing ever for this. At around about North Dakota I began to wonder how everyone around me wasn't dead from malnutrition.

I crave those too. When I was at school I used to raid the salad bar for random vegetables as "dessert" to fill me up after I was done with the main meal.

Hospital food will kill you off faster than the hospital-acquired infections will.

I make cream of wheat at home all the time. It's great. Especially when you can cook it with milk instead of water, and add just a tiny pat of butter and sprinkle of brown sugar.

Definitely not the glue you get in those places.

It's good with butter and salt.

Hamantaschen are amazing! As baked goods go, I'd give them a 65-75. But I make them every year. They're at that crucial intersection of "really tasty" and "overly complicated/time consuming to make*" while still inching out ahead to the "worth the work" category. Some things just aren't worth it to make yourself (I'm looking at you, baklava).

*at least in different flavors like we do (5 doughs and 5 fillings = 20 kinds of cookie)

I crave peppermints fairly often. I guess this is a fairly easy thing to satisfy, most drugstores will have regular starlight mints. But some times, I just really want my peppermint in candy cane form and that's difficult to satisfy in July.

I was craving peppermint patties, ham, and lemonade not too long ago. None of those things combine well. :/
