Re: "Woobie" characters and OOC stuff in general

I doubt that people write characters as woobies because there's a lack of that character type. There usually is most of the time and sometimes multiple characters depending on the genre. But these characters are still people who have other emotions or even, holy shit, have a character arc that helps them outgrow their woobiness.

What bad fanfic writers tend to do is latch onto the sad woobie part of a character and inflate it so it overshadows everything else, so they can write self-indulgent stories about woe and angst. That's all it is. Sometimes it's satisfying to just pity yourself and ergo it's satisfying seeing another character do it. It's emotional masturbation.
