I also think there's nothing wrong with wanting to show respect to another culture. Like in Japanese table etiquette it's considered pretty rude to stick your chopsticks into your food, and if you looked that up and tried not to do that if you were eating with Japanese people, it would just be basic courtesy on your part.
I'm talking about people who are hung up on "authenticity", like you have to hold the bowl this way, or you have to hold your chopsticks this way, and you have to eat the food in this order, and it has to be prepared this way. Seriously, who cares. It's not impolite, or 'bastardizing' the culture if you don't do it. Like if you want to do it because you have an interest in the traditional culture, sure, but it's not like it's giving you enlightened authenticity points, or some amazing insight on the culture.

"YOU HAVE TO LOUDLY SLURP YOUR SOUP - IT'S RUDE NOT TO!"

Hell no, I have spent a good part of my childhood being told again and again that I must not under any circumstances slurp soup so I damn well won't start with it now, no matter how ~authentic~ it might be. (It's also terribly messy if you don't do it properly.)
