It's clear from what Aslan tells Caspian about the origins of the Telmarines that they're descended from a bunch of Western European pirates who were stranded on a remote island, intermarried, and at some stage they and their descendents found a portal to Narnia and stayed, founding the Telmarine kingdom. Even if there's nothing to tell us whether the original pirates were Spanish or something else (e.g. British) and where the island was, portraying them as Hispanic makes sense.

Aravis is awesome. I wouldn't want to have to choose between her and Jill, but they're both great. And I like Lasraleen, even though Lewis obviously means us to think she's silly (having said that, though he obviously also wants us to see that her friendship for Aravis is very sincere, and she helps her even though she's frightened out of her senses, so she does get a fairly rounded portrayal).
