Tabletop RPGs. I never got to in school and I've always regretted it. But now I work so much and I don't know anyone that does it and... I have no clue how to make it happen.

If you can find a group of RL friends who are kind of interested, there are a lot of free, simplified homebrew versions available online. My group started with D&D, but used Sacred BBQ after awhile since we were more interested in the fun shenanigans than 2 hour+ long dice battles.

If you don't have anyone in RL that's interested/free, there's http://roll20.net/. Our DM would play with online people to test out new homebrew stuff before he introduced it to us, so I don't have experience with it personally but can still generally recommend it.

Depending on where you live, there's a pretty decent chance there's a tabletop meetup group. See if anyone's running newbie-friendly games, or just go a few times to meet people and see if it's your thing. There may also be a club at a local college/university that's open to non-students. My grad school had such a club, and I met a bunch of non-student friends there. (It's also how I got into it!)

Keep in mind that different groups can have a very different atmosphere/play style, so if your first try doesn't seem like much fun, you might want to try a different group and see if it was just the style of game rather than tabletop in general that wasn't for you.

Good luck!

Be careful about this.

I've always known about tabletops and I even played a few with some close friends back in high school, but it became a very very great once in a while thing.

Then I started dating a sweet guy and he had friends who played...they are the worst kind of tabletoppers (the bf isn't). They STUDY the books back to front, pretty much expect you to understand the concepts and the rules right out, and they DEMAND that you make games every weekend or they get huffy about it.

I hated that environment and played one game. Never again. Plus it turned out it's not really my deal, so.

So, be careful. Go watch some games if you can and watch the players and pick those who aren't elitist assholes.
