I still think its probably more about her badass scenes. Yes, part of that is the dragons, but I think that's just one element. Its still about her being an awesome, powerful woman. She just happens to have dragons to help.

But pretty much all of Daenerys' badassery is linked to her dragons. Walking into the flames to let the dragons hatch, letting her dragons burn the slavers, threatening people while her dragons sit next to her ... There's a reason she gets way more love from casual viewers than any of the other powerful badass women in the series. That reason being dragons. If Asha had those dragons, Asha would be the big fan favourite. If Sansa had those dragons, Sansa would be the badass awesome chick with the dragons. I'm not saying there's nothing more to Daenerys than her dragons, I'm just saying that for a lot of show fans, especially casual show fans, that is her main appeal, and if anyone else had those dragons, they would care about that character and not about her.

I think that's a pretty narrow reading of those scenes, though. Dragons were only part of them. Dany takes command of the Unsullied by using her brains while hiding the fact that she speaks Valerian. Yes, then, her dragons help burn the slavers. But that scene would be just as awesome if she found another way to get the Unsullied. Season 1 culminates in her getting the dragons, yes, but even before that we see her growing from a timid girl into someone with great inner strength who stands up for herself. By season 3, she's become a queen. You can see the power in her scenes. And thats what draws people to her as much as the dragons.

Basically, I disagree. I think Dany would be just as awesome without the dragons, and I think even the casual viewers would agree on that. I think it will be interesting to see if viewers keep loving her in season 4 when she starts making mistakes, but I disagree that the love from her is based only on the dragons.
