Wow, this turned into a rant.

Bela fucking Talbot.

Tumblr: OH BUT SHE'S A STRONG FUNNY CLEVER FEMALE CHARACTER WITH A TRAGIC BACKSTORY OF ABUSE HOW DARE YOU NOT LOVE HER YOU ROTTEN MISOGYNIST YOU!

Me: She had two people assassinated, which by itself I might understand given the circumstances, but she then went on to spend her life gleefully stealing extremely dangerous and/or vitally needed artifacts from people who were out there risking their lives trying to help others, and selling them to God knows who for the thrill and for money she didn't need.

The woman was an unapologetic Randian rational egoist, she appeared to be completely incapable of and uninterested in forming a genuine attachment to another living soul, she didn't apologize or express any genuine regret for what she'd done to Dean even when she called him in tears and admitted she'd royally fucked them both over, and though I couldn't help but laugh at some of her one-liners, as a person I did not like her one bit.

What really grinds my gears is the accusation that you can't dislike Bela but like any of the male villains or you're a woman-hating traitor to the gender. I prefer Crowley and Gabriel because both of them have shown more fucking humanity than Bela ever did (which in Crowley's case admittedly isn't saying much prior to this season, but goddamn it, he can be personable without swiping anything from under your damn nose) and I was cool with Ruby, Meg, Eve, Naomi, Anna and assorted heroic lady-types on the show. I'm indifferent to a slew of others. It's literally just Bela that really rubs me the wrong way.

(I was amused to realize recently that, all other analysis aside, it might actually come down to something as simple as cat people versus dog people. Bela had a cat, Crowley and Gabriel both had dogs.)

As for Sam and Dean, I don't hate them. But I'm finding Dean increasingly difficult to sympathize with, and Sam, though I appreciate how he's matured and become a much more forgiving and level-headed person, has just gotten kind of boring. (Cas is my darling and I think always will be.)
