Thank you, anon! I don't think anyone's ever said that to me before. Of course it would be about this, haha. Hopefully you're still here!

As a general rule I try to stick to female authors, and... if I'm trying to find something that dodges that stuff and I don't already know the author specifically, I look for stuff about adult women. I also just love yuri about adult women in general, though. Looking for stuff considered Josei would also be smart. For specific recs, obviously it depends on your taste.... And mine can range from thoughtful to super trashy, honestly.

Here's some big ones:
I love Yamaji Ebine! Look for literally anything by Yamaji Ebine. Her style is very free flowing and subdued and it makes for a nice light read. I think she's probably one of the most invested in portraying realistic queer characters out of any author I've read. Free Soul, Indigo Blue, and Love My Life come to mind first.

Morishima Akiko is like, the complete opposite of Yamaji Ebine. Her style is very cutesy and saccharine, but if you don't mind her art she has a lot of really sweet stuff (and I mean a lot, she's probably one of the most prolific yuri authors I've read) and is still fairly invested in dodging and defying the usual tropes. Hanjuku Joshi is probably her best-known work, though it breaks my "no high school" rule. Most of her work is about adult women, though -- I've really enjoyed Office Romance and the associated Honey and Mustard series, and The Conditions for Paradise is also nice. She just has a ton of work in general so you're likely to find something you might like. On top of that, she's apparently going to be working with Kunihiko Ikuhara on Yuri Kuma Arashi (aka Penguinbear)? Which is kind of incredible.

I don't always think of Amano Shuninta immediately, but she is also a good one, I'd say? I really liked Sweet Love Guilty Bites, and I've been fairly interested in The Feelings We Must All Endure and Philosophia, which are currently being scanned. She also has a few one-shots I've enjoyed. None of it is perfect and the tone varies but they've been fun.

More general stuff... Anthologies aren't guaranteed for quality for sure, but Yuri Hime is meant to be aimed at women. Shimura Takako's Aoi Hana is really great, though that's one you've likely seen. I mostly like her work in general, but she's not perfect and admittedly pretty bad at ending long-standing narratives. I ran into Shino Torino's Ohana Holoholo recently and though it doesn't get new scans often I really like it! It's slice of life-y, about two women who used to date living together -- one of whom now has a child. Saida Nika's Cirque Arachne is pretty cute and very unique -- it's about two girls in a circus troupe. Otsu Hiyori has good stuff too, but I'm gonna specifically mention Maple Love from the Your Cuteness compilation, which is one of my favorite one shots ever. If you like really dramatic or melodramatic stuff and can find it, yuri from the mid-90s and earlier is absolutely amazing, and also much, much more often about and aimed at adult women. Be warned, they also will often go into heavier stuff too -- marital rape is a common element. Moonlight Flowers by Tsukumo Mutsumi is the first of these to come to mind for me.

This is a ton of stuff! I'm sorry if it's overwhelming, I got carried away, and there's a lot of other stuff I've liked that I haven't mentioned, too. Hope you can find something you like, anon!

And I just realized I messed up the order of Sweet Guilty Love Bites' title. Whoops.
