"Bad News" is still one of my favorite episodes ever. God, Jason and Aly knocked it out of the fucking park.

Also, still not over the whiplash that was November sweeps during season seven. I was emotionally drained that entire month.

When HIMYM does angst, it does it well.

It used to do it well, anyway. Christ, the first season finale :(

From the first season? Well, you have to watch it to really get it -- it's just that while Ted has the best night of his life with an awesome miracle (he makes it rain, maybe, possibly, you can't prove it either way, which is important for plot reasons) during the same night Marshall and Lily break up and Lily leaves, and the next morning Ted comes home to find Marshall sitting heartbroken on the steps in the rain Ted (may have) created holding his engagement ring, and Ted goes from elated to shocked and sits down to comfort him with this baffled look on his face, like he doesn't understand what kind of a universe would make him so happy and his best friend so miserable at the same time. The arc that comes before it is sort of important though, because it's set up to appear that it's just One Of Those Sitcom Drama Storylines that will end up with everything being okay. (It is okay next season, but not for a while).

Ooops. missed the line about it being the first season. We're getting the last season now and I simply need to know how the last season is going to go.

The last season hasn't finished filming yet so you'll have to wait a bit longer.

Which one was "Bad News?"

(Anonymous) 2014-02-23 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
It's season 6, episode 13.

The episode where Marshall's dad died.

DA but ahhhh, I was trying to remember the episode and this makes sense. When I saw the secret I was like 'lol what angst?' but Marshall's dad dying is actually the best example of it in this show. But I think my personal favorite angst was in (probably the next?) episode where they had the funeral. The scene where Marshall tries to listen to the last voicemail from his dad and discovers it was a pocket dial, then shouts about it to his friends/god is absolute perfection... the greatest of all angsts. I actually ripped it from the episode and saved it to my desktop to watch when I needed angsty writing inspiration. Makes me cry every fucking time
