I've never heard of LJ Smith or anything she's written, though. I don't think she's as popular as you think. Or maybe she is and I'm just pop culture illiterate.

She was crazy popular back in the 90s. But it predated the Harry Potter revolution whereupon it became acceptable for adults to read YA and children's lit.
