Another Olympics related question...

[personal profile] mekkio 2014-02-23 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
When it comes to the Summer Olympics, I'm usually glued to my set, cheering the home team as well as any underdog countries. But Winter Olympics? I don't think I watched one event. I am just not into it.

Is anyone else like this? This is the last day for the Olympics and I have been more entertained by the backstage antics than anything happening on the field. Or are you one those people who are cheering on every event. Summer or Winter, it doesn't matter. You are there for the Olympics.

I'm usually the other way around. I really love skiing/snowboarding and other winter sports (weirdly, not skating which is the one thing people usually watch). I'm not watching this year by personal choice, but usually winter olympics are the ones I'm more likely to watch.

My understanding is that that's pretty common? Like, the Summer Olypmics are generally waaaaaaay more popular than the winter ones?

I just can't get into the Olympics. I like watching gymnastics for the summer and skating for the winter, but after seeing a few rounds, I'm sort of done. Oh well :\

My mom and I will watch the recaps during the Summer Games but everything is announced for this beforehand it seems. I don't know, I'm more glued during the Summer than the Winter.

When my grandmother was alive, she'd come stay with us during the Olympics and we'd watch figure skating and gymnastics together.

I love all Olympics. But it's been hard to watch this one as religiously as I usually watch the Winter Olympics -- it's the first winter Olympics since I went to college and it's just not the same without my family and with my wonky schedule. In summer 2012, I was home with them.

I'm pretty meh about the Summer Olympics besides a few sports but I'd love to watch the WInter Olympics. Unfortunately I'm too busy watching the rugby cup of the Six Nations (damn you, Wales! I hope Ireland kicks your arse!).

Again, other way around for me. There are a couple of the summer events I tune in for (diving and swimming, mostly), but a lot more of the winter ones (all the skate events, ski jumping, snowboarding, luge, cross-country). I'm not really cheering for any countries, though, it's more that the sports themselves fascinate me. Especially the ski jumping and skate events. Women's ski jumping this year was wonderful.

I usually only care about a couple of events in each (skating in winter and gymnastics in summer, which I guess is pretty common actually?) but I maybe care about the Winter events slightly more. I'm probably more likely to watch a random event that isn't one of the ones I usually care about if it's from the Winter Olympics.

I payed attention at the last Winter Olympics but that was because I was living in Vancouver and it was everywhere! Also, it was part of my job and was actually a really fun time during the most dreary days of the winter season.

This year, I can't say I have payed much attention to it. It doesn't help that the Winter Olympics fall during really busy school time whereas I have much more free time to pay attention to the Summer Olympics.

I was in Vancouver too! I didn't really get to go to anything during them because I had work and school stuff, but it was still a great deal of fun

Haha, I still remember the giant explosion I heard throughout campus when the Canadian hockey team won against the US.

I'm more into some of the summer events, but I'm glad I'm getting to see more of these winter games than I got to four years ago when I was a student. Also I was really pissed off at getting tape-delayed when Vancouver is IN MY TIME ZONE.

I'm the opposite. I love the Winter Olympics like whoa, but I'm probably biased because I'm Canadian and my family is all from Finland. I'll leave the a TV on while not necessarily paying super close attention to some events, but I love watching stuff like Hockey, Curling, Ski Jumping, Cross-Country Skiing, etc.

The Summer Olympics I'm more meh about. I've never been a big fan of Track and Field events or running or stuff like that. I usually watch swimming because I personally enjoy to swim, but that's about it for me.

I hate how they organise these Games getting Russia and Brazil host them resulting in people there loosing money that could be spend on health care and education. Can't they, I don't know, have the Olympics in Europe, in different coutries at once, maybe?

On another note I watch Olympics only when I stumble on it by chance. I like the one where they ski and shoot and the Summer one, where they jump. I don't care which country wins.

Russia is partly in Europe. And it's not a third world country. It has one of the largest economies in the world.
