Re: Thank you, F!S, for proving OP's point

The fact remains that Tumblr is the only website I've seen where this kind of discussion even comes up, though. I have never gone anywhere else where people debate Frozen for POC or feminist representation. I'll take a wankfest that has a few gems over multiple polite threads that have nothing I'm looking for.

That does not in any way negate what I said.

Really? I think no amount of ~progressive discussion~ should warrant the toxic, vicious and downright fucked up evil bullshit some people on tumblr spout. I'm not even considering the fact that tumblr is a very, very useless format to have a poper discussion with. But if you really think that discussions about feminist and POC representations only exist since and on tumblr, you really haven't been looking properly.

Thank you. It's like the internet didn't exist before tumblr or something.

tbf, the SJW stuff really started around 2009 and was mostly on LiveJournal. Thus why we saw so much hate and vitriol from them when FS was on LJ.

Then you aren't looking very hard, pretty much every website I've seen has had these same discussions for years now. You pretty much can't go to a video game forum without seeing discussions about women in gaming and female and minority representation. Sure, the quality of the thread can range from calm and informative, to downright toxic, but they are happening, you saying you don't see them means nothing because they exist in large quantity.

Even specifically related to Frozen, the debate over the romantic subversion, female representation, and even the topic of gay representation, is something I saw on numerous different websites, from dedicated Subreddits to the off-topic forums for unrelated media, it happened in a lot more places than just Tumblr.

Look, there's nothing wrong with preferring Tumblr's format, or finding the posters on Tumblr more interesting to hold discussions with, but don't sit there and pretend that just because you didn't bother to go out and look for other forums discussing these topics, that means that those discussions didn't take place, and suddenly Tumblr is the only place these conversations are happening. It accomplishes nothing but poisoning the argument, and it makes you look silly, because anyone whose seen these discussions garner dozens or hundreds of threads on other websites is going to know right away that you don't know what you're talking about.

What on earth sort of bubble are you living in where the only place on the entire goddamn internet where people discuss those sorts of issues is tumblr?

(Anonymous) 2014-02-24 06:10 pm (UTC)(link)
...except here?
