Kay so LW was originally published in two parts. The first part ends with Meg/John's engagement and no one else was romantically involved, but all the readers in the 1860s wanted Jo and Laurie to end up together. Alcott said "I won't marry Jo to Laurie to please anyone!" (actual quote) and paired him off with Amy, after writing a very thorough ship-sinking scene for J/L. It's been 150 years but people are STILL mad about this (see also: several of the other comments on this secret.)

It's nice to see that shipping wank has a long and prestigious history. *Wipes tear from eye*
waterfall8484: The text "Just and loyal does not mean PUSHOVER". (No pushover by allymckeal)

Which is one of the reasons Alcott is so awesome. :~D

The other is (apparently) her Gothic novels, which I haven't read to be honest, but which sound very entertaining.

Yeah, the second half of Little Women was published as Good Wives. I was given a copy of it as a kid, started to read it and was all "WTH? I've read this already."
