Overreacting? In both directions?
The secret, to me, just reads as dislike run through an 'internet-hyperbole filter'. This is just how people talk on the internet, and maybe even just this generation. Nobody ever mildly-dislikes something, is moderately irritated by someone, or kind of enjoys something. It's love it or hate it, and the stronger the language the more attention you (think you) get. Even a lot of the comments harshing on the OP for their opinion are rather judgmental and strongly worded.

it's hyperbole? "i dislike an actor because of her looks" blah blah, if people sound over it it's cos no matter how you say it, it's a fucking stupid and sexist thing to say.

How the hell is it sexist? Plenty of people don't like, say, Cumberbatch because they think he's a fuggo who gets too much tumblr luv.

Because women are held up to an unnaturally high standard whereas plenty of average men in Hollywood are still considered good-looking and it's not considered the greatest fucking insult to them.

Basically, the greatest insult for an actor is that his acting sucks. The greatest insult for an actress is that she's ugly.
