I wasn't there, but it looks like the trainer was just unfortunately placed somewhere that allowed for that position to result after challenging the player.

He doesn't. We finally got out, but we had to faint all our mons in order to do so. :P

Damn. I had to do that in Red once because I got stuck in a basement. It was really hard because my pokemon were over-leveled.

Haha, this. I never expected Pokemon Mansion to be such the challenge its been, but now that we've been here for over a day, oh god. How could I have missed it?

Multi-floor maze. Check. Obstacles that can only be removed by pressing A in the exact right spot. Check. Continuous random encounters. Check. Enemies that easily poison our pokemon, thereby killing them as we wander around blindly. Check.

I was just on about two hours ago and we were RIGHT NEXT to a bed that could've healed us. We were at about 79% democracy with the two lines literally on top of each other, but couldn't get it past that final push. Every pokemon was dead except for Bird Jesus who was poisoned and almost dead. At one point we were at the bed with Bird Jesus at 1hp, but then we went up instead, instantly got into a battle, used Sand-Attack instead of run and blacked out.

THIS FUCKING GAME.

I'm thrilled we managed to bring back our god, but it sucks not to have xCabbage, Digrat and Dux anymore. I guess our team is a little more balanced now, but I miss them. :( ATV is cool, though! I like having a Venomoth.

I think I'd like Venomoth a bit more if it actually had some decent moves. D:

I feel bad for Cabbage, Digrat, and Dux, but I do love Aa-J and feel their sacrifice was worth it. (I admit I might be a little biased since I was there to participate in his capture was 100% for getting him out of the PC if it was the last thing we did.)
