Like other anon said, pseudoephedrine is used to make meth. These days, most places keep that stuff behind the pharmacy counter so it's harder to steal (you don't need a prescription to get it, but you have to go up and ask for it). I get carded for things like NyQuil, which I can just pull off the shelf. I've heard you can get drunk off of cough syrup, which I think is why they card for it, but I've had to show ID even in for the lozenge form. There I am, half delerious from a cold, and I'm like, "Driver's license? Bwuh? *snifflecough*"

Meth? That would explain why it's not commonly IDed for here in the UK. We just don't have as big a problem with meth addicts as parts of the US do. It is over here, just not in as great quantities.

I got carded for buying a diuretic once - I use them during my period to avoid bloating. Still not sure what the reasoning behind that one was.
