But you clearly said that even if OP thinks they might be a danger to themselves or others, they should LIE ABOUT IT. That's a very irresponsible piece of advice to give someone.

It takes a lot to be committed long-term. If you honestly feel you may be a danger to yourself or others, a 24-hour stay might not be the worst idea in the world.

Well, that's tricky, even for a non-suicidal person. You might not know who the wrong people are until it's too late. Doesn't mean it's not a genuine issue, though.
