I was delighted when I found out that Daisuke was skating in Sochi, I really loved his skating in Vancouver and felt bad for the guy because he came around when Plushenko was dominating because I thought he had the stuff to get the gold.

He didn't skate as best as he could due to age and injuries but it was a good way to bow out. At least he got a medal in that slugfest in Vancouver 2010.

But it's not unusual to grieve to see your fave athletes retiring. Especially they dedicated so much of their youth to the sport that it seems cruel that they have to stop at a very young age because the human body can't take the stress anyone after a certain age (even if their bodies haven't begun breaking down). I can't imagine something like that.

But yeah, it's kinda weird seeing a lot the skaters moving on at the same time. Next Olympics is really an open field, especially in ladies' and I expect Yuzuru and Patrick to duke it out for the gold one more time in Pyeongchang 2018 before Patrick retires. I will miss this generation of skaters because it was truly awesome to see them breaking records left and right and pushing the sport forward even though there was controversy.
