I wanted to help people, not simply be part of the capitalist machine, I have a very good tolerance for things most people don't (the grim) - may as well get paid for it, and I have a very specific skill set that isn't marketable in 99% of jobs without a maths degree.

Plus it can be exciting as hell. Who in good faith can say they've never wanted to knock a door through, scream police, and sprint into the unknown in their public order gear.

Also I volunteered to test the waters, and found out I loved it.
