Re: Recommendations for WoW?

May I suggest Guild Wars? They're always having free trial periods so you could check it out free, and then it's just buy to play - no subscription. It's not a perfect game but I have a lot of fun with it.

I've been interested in Guild Wars (watched my friend play a couple times in college) but I hesitated at the price when I wasn't sure if I would like it. So they just run a trial period every so often? I'll have to look out for that.

Yes, keep an eye out! Usually it's a 3-day weekend free trial. Rumoured to be one in March I think, but nothing concrete yet.

DA

They do - and the price is a one time thing, no fees after that [unless you decide to change servers or something, and even there you can get the same basic thing without actually having to do that.]

But I suspect that the other anon actually means Guild Wars 2 since that came out a year or two ago and is pretty awesome. Just, if you do play it in trail, don't expect it to play exactly like other mmos since some things [like their quests for example] are set up a little different and it throws people a bit at first.

They do indeed, and as far as server I would recommend Tarnished Coast; I have NEVER seen such a friendly server and general chat in ANY game I have played. We always know when people are guesting in the high level zones (to farm) because the chat gets to a point where it has to be turned off. (I would mention that it can be a bit of a pain to get on TC; my gf's stepdaughter took a couple days before she was able to get in because it was full but it is really, really worth it. My impressions of other servers have... been pretty awful.)

another server rec

I've heard very nice things about TC, and they're not assholes in WvW so that's always nice. ;) Another good server is Stormbluff Isle. Not perfect but assholes get called out in chat pretty regularly and it's generally a friendly mid-size server. Not huge, but events are never empty.

Yup, I've actually done WVW on TC and normally I HATE PVP because of the attitude. Folks... being nice... in PVP? AMG.

Nice to have a rec for a server that's also good! I love TC but it can be difficult to get onto, which makes it annoying if you're trying to catch a free weekend.
