Re: Actually, one of my friends and I

Yes, it is. But when the predominant discussion in a subject like female comedians is how much they suck and there's a very real issue of discrimination going on, bringing up that one lesbian comedian you heard about from a friend who cried wolf is a bit like interrupting a serious discussion about racial discrimination and going, "But but but my friend knew this one black guy who was really awful!"

If you don't realize how dodgy that sounds for you to bring it up, then I suppose there's not much help for you, but I will clarify-- it sounds like you're implying that all the abuses that happen are okay because a tiny fraction of a percentage of the cases aren't abuse. Not only does that argument NOT make any sense (Ex: Driving and drinking isn't a problem because not every drunk driver kills someone!) it makes people wonder why you're bringing it up... and none of the reasons flatter you.

Original commenter: Yeah, I understand why that sounds kinda offensive :/ Sorry about that. I wasn't trying to imply that the reason that women have so much trouble in comedy is because they suck or some of them suck.

I was trying to talk about how representation can be kinda bad when it relies more on reminding the audience how they are 'different' from everyone else than on other areas of substance that it can get a bit 'token-y'
(Not that that justifies any prejudice in comedy or anywhere else)

I was trying to add to the discussion with something that I thought would contribute something, but I was wrong. Sorry.
(I'm a woman btw)
