He is? He always looked darker to me. Not exactly less white racially, but definitely less pale. And curly dark hair tends to cause people to parse certain nationalities or ethnicities too.

I know it's "technically" a baseless assumption -- but c'mon. This is American TV producers making things for American TV audiences we're talking about here. Just a couple days ago there was a secret whining about how the OP wished a villain in GoT had an uglier actor so s/he could hate him more.
