When I went away to college, I got teased relentlessly for my accent. I actually took several years of elocution lessons to try to get rid of most of my accent, because a lot of people seem to think that I'm an uneducated hick once I open my mouth (and I worked damned hard for my master's and PhD).

Those people were idiots. One of my smartest professors had an accent.

Next time you run into people like that let them think you're an uneducated hick until juuuuuust the right moment. Then drop that knowledge like it's hot and leave them with their jaws on the floor.
