William Gibson's Neuromancer. And no, it's not shitty.

Cool. I'll see if it's at my library. Thanks for the info.

If you have trouble getting into Gibson's early writing style, which is a bit wordy (yet pulp-detective at times) pick up his short story collection "Burning Chrome" which is most of the same stuff but in smaller, easier-to-swallow doses.

Specifically, read Hinterlands and Dogfight.

You can do it in half an hour, an dI can promise you'll appreciate his work right off the bat.

Ha! I can see why!

Did you ever read Pattern Recognition? He sort of calls back to Neuromancer by naming the protagonist Cayce.

I like it, at least. It's definitely not cyberpunk, though -- Gibson got more and more realist over the decades and now he's just writing tech thrillers because there's no point in writing more of the future he originally wrote -- we're kind of already in it, just to a less exaggerated degree.

I've enjoyed everything of his, so i say 'yes', give it a go!
Bummer about Neuromance - that and Mona Lisa Overdrive are my go-to comfort books.
