DA

But I don't really get why people complain about trigger warnings. Having them doesn't harm anything, and may in fact help some random who finds dentistry or stuff like this triggering. But at the end of the day, why are you upset about a warning that doesn't effect you?

Re: ayrt

Because they are fucking stupid. Everything can trigger someone somewhere. A friend of my mom goes into panic mode every time she sees a cat, even if it's just a picture of a cat. Should we put [TRIGGER WARNING: CAT] every time we post or talk about cats then?

But it honestly harms absolutely nobody to have the warning. It's a stupid thing to complain about.

And if you want to put a trigger warning for cat discussions go for it! I honestly see no downside to that. On the same hand, nobody is forcing you to put trigger warnings on anything.

Oh wow, I hate to ask this but could you put a trigger warning for excessive adverbs on this? Using more than one adverb per sentence really does a number on me.

ayrt - I am not really upset about it but I think if we start to get paranoid about every little thing being potentially triggering, this comm is going to start being kind of unpleasant. Like I said, if they just put "Dentists/Teeth" in the subject that should be enough for anyone who doesn't want to read it. Common triggers like rape, animal abuse, etc. fine, I can see those. I am bothered by suicide posts myself and appreciate the "wait til it collapses" rule. But there is a such thing as being overly cautious and communities that start doing that usually end up being the kind that dogpile anyone who inadvertently says the wrong thing because it might possibly be offensive or triggering to someone.
