Thing is, compared to the film, the book has a happy ending. The animated film, for some bizarre reason, decided they wanted to be MORE DEPRESSING than Richard Adams. Who does that? Why?

And the book was bad enough. I stopped and started on it so many times. The first time I got to the part where they slept part of the night in an incinerator and I was so terrified by the book already that I put it down in the sure conviction that they were going to be burned to death. This is a book that trains you to expect awful things.

Mostly, admittedly, because the characters have been trained to expect awful things. Good gods above.

Oh, wow. I never saw the animation. GAH!

Although, that book did introduce me to Tod, and planted the seed for my love of clever, tricky, foxes. I've actually had to name a character that in a story, 'cause...yeah.

But...puppies!
