Anyone who has seen how real rape victims get raked over the coals for coming forward with what happened to them is probably going to think twice before putting themselves through that when they haven't been raped themselves. A lot of people who are raped don't tell anyone about it because of the way rape victims are treated by the people around them, the media, and the police or other authority figures who are supposed to be helping them.
