Yep. Lady Gaga is p. much old news (at least, where I live anyways. I hardly hear her songs on the radio as often as I used to), and I forsee the same thing happening to the likes of Miley Cyrus in a year or two, since their outrageousness has been oversold/overexposed at this point, imho.

People can only gorge themselves on it so much, and then it gets to a point where people are like "Oh, this again. Yawn." Especially since you've got people like Lorde quickly gaining attention in the world of music, and she's like a polar opposite of the likes of Gaga and Miley in both style and public persona.

Exactly! And the thing a lot of people forget is being a successful singer isn't primarily focused on how crazy/outrageous you are, but how good your talent is when it comes to being a singer. That's the thing that will keep you in the game forever, not how weird you fucking are! Which is why artists shouldn't use those "acts" as a way to be successful artist. They'll lose the game eventually.

Ah'yup. imho, Gaga lasted as long as she did in the public eye because there really wasn't anyone like her at the time (though it's been said she's copied/ripped off people like Grace Jones, late 80's/early 90's Madonna), and hasn't been for the last 4-5 odd years. I do think she has a good amount of talent ('The Fame Monster' was her musical peak, imho), but IMHO she's going to have to completely reinvent her image and maybe even her musical style -ala Madonna- at this point if she has any hope/desire of staying relevant in the public's eye.

But yeah, style over substance rarely ever gets one far in the entertainment world. There are some who can pull it off, but that's only because they've learned to put more emphasis on the substance and use just the right amount of style.
