Wait, do you mean the character is faking it, or that the disabled character exists only to bring attention to an issue? Both are icky, for sure.

And also, when "special needs" characters are supposed to bring a tear to the eye. Unfortunately this happens IRL too though...

I thought they weren't allowed to play the pity party card on the telethons anymore? Mind you it has been some time since I've watched one, so....

I don't really mean telethons, necessarily - but for instance, I'll read an article online about a kid with autism, and the comments will be like:

"TEARS PRAYERS TEARS!"

Or the article itself will basically be like that. And there are times shows and movies this too. The only thing I liked about Glee was that Becky was so not an inspirational blessing from Heaven Above. (And even that got twisted into another kind of awkward. Especially the shooting episode.)
