This, except you can get IDE to USB converters; I have one, but haven't gone through the special hell of pulling the drives in the heaps I have to scrap yet, so can't tell you whether or not they work well; it is one option, though, if you want to salvage anything off the drives you've pulled.

Your local Best Buy and/or computer shop should have a recycling program, best take it to them, instead of the local dump, due to chemicals and metals and other ick you're not supposed to dispose of w/o recycling.
