Reading fanfiction with good plots written by bad writers is the worst. I want to know what's going to happen next, but every other sentence has a crucial misspelling. One of the characters just said something congenitally!

Oh god do I know that pain. Why are the tropes/plots I like consistently written by shitty writers?

(Anonymous) 2014-03-02 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
AGREED. Oh man, I found a fic that had such a wonderful premise, but it was so absurdly full of nonsensical typos that I couldn't get through it. I mean, the author kept writing "ought" instead of "out" for God's sake.

Also a problem (if not as common of one) is long stories that are good for 3/4 of the story and then derail hard in that last stretch. Solid writing, solid plot, solid characterization, and then just OOC AND DRAMA everywhere.

My roommate and I always tell each other the funniest wrong words we come across.

This.

Especially if more effort went into the deceiving summary than the actual story.

this could be solved by people (who don't mind taking some criticism) getting a good beta for conventions.

it would help so much

Personally, I hate the ones that have awesome premises...then fuck up the pacing*/characters/whatever - but not spelling unless it's like...every other word.

*I'm weird about this one it seems, since if you get a [particularly romance plot/sub-plot] going too fast it just feels forced and throws me out hard...unless there's a good reason in verse, which there rarely is in poorly written stuff.
