Oh Anon, I have been madly in love with this game for so many years and never felt so alone. I'm shy to admit it but I'm working on a cosplay from this game and fully expect zero people to recognize me, but I must do it because I love these characters so hard. I'm resigned to the fact that nobody will probably ever cosplay other Suikoden III characters with me, and that's okay. no it's not

Who's my favorite? Oh how do I even choose?! I guess right now, because I just spent a billion hours of my life making Hugo's costume, I am very fond of him.

Oh, I loved that game! I liked 2, too, but you're right, the interweaving stories for 3 were really good. I just missed my nice 2D sprites...

Try it with Geddoe as the FC once, he has some interesting things to say to Luc. But yeah, I feel you on the lack of fanworks. Fandom's boner is for II and lots of Tyr from I and not much else. I'd contribute but I can't draw for shit.

I will most likely do that after I finish my Chris playthrough.
Geddoe is really mysterious and I figured he might reveal some interesting info from the past events in his story.
I thought it's better to save him for last.

Wise choice. Enjoy every minute of it. He's my favorite character in the game, and that's saying a lot since I sincerely love a good, oh, 60 or 70 characters.

I love this game too! But my reaction to the characters was the opposite of yours- when I first played it I thought Chris was awesome and after multiple walkthroughs I ended up liking Hugo better.
Either way, yeah, wish Suikoden games this good were still around.

Oh my gosh anon, my heart actually sped up when I saw this secret, I love Suikoden III so much! (Although Hugo FC forever for me.) I feel you on the smallness of fandom. I have so many ideas for fic I want to write for it, but I'm reluctant to because who would read them.

On the other hand, I'm not that good at getting myself to write anything, so I don't know if I'd write them even if there were a fandom.

Sometimes I feel like I must be the only person who hates this game. =/ It doesn't feel like it fits in with the rest of the Suikoden games (to be fair, 4 does that even worse), and the writing always seemed really sloppy. Like it falls apart halfway through. =/ And having the dog as the final Trinity playthrough? Why not Sasarai? And where the hell is Thomas supposed to actually fit in to any of it?

I just... I just don't get the love at all. I've tried, but all I get when I look at that game is hate and disdain. D: *does love 1, 2, 5, and all of the side games including Tactics, and despite all it's other issues likes 4 enough*

Haha I have to admit Koroku the dog is a sad excuse to put another flame in the selection menu. He's just a side activity to see more of the characters. If you're not curious about the characters then I guess he's totally pointless.

Thomas is there basically just to provide the heroes their HQ, but I guess it's interesting to know the story of how hard he worked to keep the place at first.

Personally I like 3's character design the best. Somehow they're very memorable, while characters from 4 & 5 look rather generic to me. The trinity system in 3 also allows players to get to know a lot of characters better which makes it difficult not to care about them. The world also reacts differently depending on which character you're controlling. It's one of the best way of storytelling in a game IMO.

Suikoden III! I LOVE this game, and this was the first one out of the series that I played. (My little brother was playing it, and I was intrigued by the giant lizards and ducks and what have you, haha.) When I first got into fanfic I was kind of obsessed, and I think I read everything there was (there should be so, so much more...) I've always loved the Chris and the knights especially and while I rotate through the FCs when I replay, Chris is always my preferred choice.

Well, actually, there is a butt ton of fanworks for this series. Unfortunately, the bulk of it probably happened ten or so years ago, but at least the fanfiction is still on ff.net. (I'm just speaking as someone who went from writing strictly for 1 and 2, never thinking I'd have that much love invested into 3, to having the bulk of my fanworks revolve around 3... well, at the time :P)
