Medical Advice

[personal profile] philstar22 2014-03-02 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Something is wrong with my foot. Its fine when I'm laying in bed unless I move it the wrong way. Then I get shooting pain from the middle of my foot up into my ankle. But I get even worse pain if I put any weight on it. Its not a muscle problem, and I didn't twist my ankle or anything. I can't figure out what is going on or what I can do.

My doctor isn't open on the weekend, so I have to weight until tomorrow to go. But its reached the point where I'm not even sure I could walk to the subway to get to my doctor.

Any suggestions?

Keep it elevated, OTC painkillers and maybe ice it now and again until you can get out to see someone? Is there anyone who can drive you to the doctor if you can't make the walk?

Been doing that. May try to go to the school clinic, which I also have to walk to but isn't as far of a walk. Everyone I know takes the subway, and plus classes start tomorrow which complicates things.

No idea, sorry. Strained tendon, maybe? Keeping the weight off it is a good idea, and perhaps try an OTC anti-inflammatory, like Ibuprofen or Naproxen. (Asprin is a pain killer, but doesn't do jack for inflammation.)

Not to be that guy, but asprin is an anti-inflammatory. You're thinking of acetaminophen/paracetamol. But I second your recommendation of NSAIDs.

Sorry yes, I was thinking of Tylenol.

Could you have landed hard on it?

Like, jumping or running? You could have jammed it, bruised a bone, or even fractured the heel bone. There's also plantar fasciitis, tarsal tunnel syndrome, tendinitis, or even arthritis - all fairly common.

I had something similar a while ago - it really sounds a lot like it.

Could be one of these.

I was wondering if it was tendinitis. I had a mild case this summer in my right foot. Philstar's sounds much more severe than mine was, though. idk

I'd hold out for HerpyMcDerp to show up. He seems to know his shit. And if you need something in your arse, he's definitely your man.

...I'm definitely your man if you need something in your ass. Don't worry baby, it'll only be for you. and Noodles, of course

Although actually an anon above covered just about everything I could say about this already:

Pain with torsion from the mid arch sounds to me like a fracture, but OP would need imaging to be sure.

I'm sorry to hear that OP. My personal guess would be a small fracture from the way you've described things, and the only thing you can really do if that's the case is to keep off it and keep it iced.

As for trying to move on it, don't put it in a shoe when you go out. Try to use things as a crutch, or if you don't have anything suitable and you really must take the subway enlist someone's help to get you there.

I hope everything works out.
