Depends on whether or not I was in a situation initially that required me to care for people. If so, that's probably about where I'd remain. If not, I wouldn't risk joining a group of relative strangers.

Where I live is pretty fucking abundant as far as food and natural resources go, so I could easily survive hunting and gathering and growing food as long as I had a proper stock of medical supplies.
