(Anonymous) 2014-03-03 06:18 am (UTC)(link)I studied Slavic linguistics, with a particular/side emphasis on Soviet history, in grad school, and the things that people would say to me were somewhat astonishing. I'm always torn between my immediate reaction of "....... really?" and my more thoughtful reaction that maybe I have a skewed sense of "common knowledge" because of my field of study.
But geez, had that freshman never heard of the Berlin wall?
