2014 Oscars Reactions

(Anonymous) 2014-03-04 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
Overall, I thought it was great. Ellen apparently had some critics, but I thought she was hilarious. I was in tears when she actually ordered pizza, and had Brad Pitt pass out paper plates and shit. She's awesome.

I wanted the guy who played the Somali pirate from Captain Phillips to win Best Supporting Actor. Especially since I don't see him easily snagging other roles, and he was the only good thing about that movie.

Prayers for Leo... :( Thought this would be his year for sure!

Kinda surprised Sandra Bullock didn't win Best Actress for Gravity, I think she deserved it, but am not necessarily mad that she didn't get it, either. I liked Cate's "we need more female roles" rant, anyway.

I loved that they didn't air "Let it go" until almost 11pm. All of those poor parents who told their kids, "Yes, I know it's a school night. But we'll make the exception tonight and let you stay up to watch the performance" thinking that it would air early in the show.

Oh, and "Happy" is catchy as hell.

I wanted Fassbender and Ejiofor to win (at least Lupita won!). :( Not stupid Jared Leto and Matthew McNoshirt.

Ejiofor definitely should have won. I am happy for Lupita, I only recently found out that was the first time she'd ever been in a movie.

Teared up when Lupita won. Super glad about 12 Years A Slave winnings.

The most unintentionally funny thing...

[personal profile] mekkio 2014-03-04 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
that happened for me was when Frozen won for best song and Kristen Anderson-Lopez tried to make all the losers happy by spitting out a half heartfelt platitude of, "To everyone else, you are all rock stars to me."

Mind you, this was said to Karen O (Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs), Ezra Koenig (Vampire Weekend), U2 and Pharrell Williams, who are actual rocks stars.

I can imagine them hearing this and thinking, "We know..."

Er...I'm pretty sure that was an intentional joke, actually. She didn't say "to me," she said "To my fellow nominees, you are all rock stars...literally."

I did! I loved that so much.

Jared Leto always surprises me with how articulate he is.

I guess part of me is still stuck on him as Jordan Catalano plus I remember some of the very odd things he's done for roles.

I never watch award shows but my friends and I got together for this one and I loved it. Love Ellen, love pizza and Brad Pitt, love the photo tweet. I can really see how the host would make or break the show.

While I didn't find Ellen particularly funny, I thought she was a good host and I loved her outfits.

And I thought most everyone gave really thoughtful and interesting acceptance speeches too.
