As a note, social justice is not a fandom. Tumblr itself is not a fandom.

Thank you!

I find that very interesting, if flawed. There's no real possibility of random sampling, there are undoubtedly differences in questions between surveys which could lead to disparate responses, possibility of misidentifying sexuality due to the choice of labels in some of the surveys... yeah, it's not exactly scientific.

That said, this seems intuitively closer to the truth than anything else I've seen, and brings up some interesting questions about how this breaks down for people who enjoy slash outside of these particular fandom spaces.

lol sorry to rant at you there.

Yeah, I agree that it's definitely flawed, but I think it's safe to say that the number of straight slash fans is probably less than 85%? Also, it's definitely fandom dependent, so it's really hard to say what the exact figure for sure is.

There's no way you're going to get a 'scientific' study of fandom.

What is the sampling frame? We have no idea what the population is, so we can't make a sample representative. There's no list anywhere. The closest you'd probably be able to get would be sending an email out to every member of AO3 and FF.net, and even then you're not capturing people who lurk or do fandom in other spaces. You'd also more than likely have a fucking terrible response rate.
