Idk what others say about it, but what is definitely whitewashing and problematic about it is changing the origin story.

See that in the light of Nagasaki and Hiroshima. It's not directly about the American, it's about the atomic bomb itself, yes. But taking this part of American responsibility out of the story is shitty as fuck.

force of nature, ok. but appropriating the story by rewriting it so that Americans shoot atomic bombs to stop godzilla, as it's at least rumoured? that's just wrong in my opinion, if you call it white washing or not.
