All the hate I've seen of her was basically "waaah she's a mary sue!!! euuuw she has a vagina I can't ship her with anyone!! She wasnt in the oringal hobbit book!!! (even though I never saw anyone complin anout Legolas, gee I wonder why.)

It's the typical sexist dudebro reasons that most female characters have to unforunataly go though.

She's hated because she's been shitty to fans and has made a big deal about how much she hates acting and never wants to do it anymore... yet here she is. And she's a shitty actor. Also she cheated on Dominic Monaghan when they were a thing.

This needs to come out on Blu-Ray already so I can finally see it...

NGL though, this hate for Tauriel has made me extremely curious about her character. (I want her to be awesome because of it.) I've heard mostly good things in this comm (outside a couple secrets) but I'm hoping she has some really good scenes and a satisfying ending for her character arc in the last movie.

And I didn't like Kate either, but I don't think that had anything to do with Evangeline.

I really liked her as Tauriel and liked all of her scenes with both Legolas and Kili. She was fierce. I don't get what all the hate is for.

I would say some of it might be purists that can't stand a new character being added to the story, but if they have a problem with her then they must hate the whole thing in general (in which case, why single her out?) because these movies have their fair share of differences. Maybe some of it is people thinking she's a Mary Sue (That gets thrown around a lot in fandom, often incorrectly), finding her inclusion forced or not liking her because she comes between a ship.

At this point I just think she's incredibly hot and looks like she can take care of herself so I'm fully expecting to harbor a huge crush on her.

I had a little trouble seeing her as Tauriel and not Kate-playing-Tauriel because I hadn't seen her in anything else, but I do like the character. She's pretty badass.

I actually had the opposite reaction. I hated Kate, was apprehensive about Evangeline Lilly being in the Hobbit movie, and ended up really liking Tauriel.

I cringed and cringed when the casting announcement and I was still apprehensive when I sat down in the cinema, even if Evangeline Lilly's interviews had slowly dragged me to the pro-Tauriel side.

I can't make a judgement on it, since I never watched Lost. All I can say is that I liked Tauriel more than I liked Legolas.

Is it her acting you have problems with? I can't imagine it's her personality, from most interviews I've seen Evangeline seems a perfectly lovely girl. I've only seen her in Lost, The Hurt Locker and The Hobbit, and while I disliked Kate I'm certain it was the writing that made it so. Her role in THL was too small to judge, and I quite liked her in The Hobbit.

Never watched Lost or read Tolkien. Saw an interview with the actress just before the movie was released and thought she was fun and engaging. Loved Tauriel. She's about the only thing worth looking forward to in the third movie.

I thought that I hated the actress as well as the fact that she played Kate from Lost, but turns out I just hated Kate.
