Through copious amounts of alcohol and friends. Eating with someone you don't know and then also figuring out who pays is like my biggest nightmare. I would much rather get to know them at a party or other places where money and/or food isn't involved.

Most people are friends before dating [or, at the very least know each other relatively well], and if we don't we've probably at the very least been talking for quite a while before hand so we at least know something about each other. I mean, I guess that could be a regional thing, but I'm not sure I've ever met anyone whose gotten into a relationship without knowing each other before dating.
