Cool.

Through copious amounts of alcohol and friends. Eating with someone you don't know and then also figuring out who pays is like my biggest nightmare. I would much rather get to know them at a party or other places where money and/or food isn't involved.

Seems just as complicated as over here but in a completely different way.

Nah it isn't too complicated... If you have sex with someone and then hang out with them afterwards you are exclusive if you don't it was an one night stand...

really tho, yes it is. But dating still seems like one of those things that only happens in movies, also cheerleading...

Nothing is real. There are only movies.

Tbh, that article has a lot of things wrong about American dating, I think the main problem being that they are comparing their real life with our movies? I'm sure there are a lot of fascinating differences between our cultures but there really is no one "dating experience" here and it's really, really not like the movies. Getting together with someone you meet in a large group of friends isn't really a strange idea to me, for example.

I guess I should have read through it again before posting it here... I knew it was pretty accurate on the Norwegian thing, didn't even think about the American side of it...

It's okay that you posted it! I'm not like offended or anything. It is a tiny bit grating when people assume they know everything about our culture because movies, but eh. eh. EH. I'm gonna go make some coffee.

I'm...not going to lie, that article kind of confuses me. Like, not with what they're saying about how things are there - but with how they seem to think things work here [in the US].

For example, the whole "going on a date before getting to know them" thing doesn't...really happen much where I live? Most people are friends before dating [or, at the very least know each other relatively well], and if we don't we've probably at the very least been talking for quite a while before hand so we at least know something about each other. I mean, I guess that could be a regional thing, but I'm not sure I've ever met anyone whose gotten into a relationship without knowing each other before dating.

Which is why it is an article about Scandinavian dating not American I would presume.
