Sounds like an actor to me. Some are jerks and some are utterly lovely people, and most are well-intentioned but imperfect like everyone else, but they're all pretty self-absorbed in certain specific ways. It's what makes them actors, and it seems unkind to hold it against them. It's like getting mad at basketball players for being tall. :)

Agreed (and man, am I late to this party). We as consumers tend to be so far removed from actor culture, and that's what feeds this obsession with a group of people that are ultimately just doing their jobs. It's a fucking weird job, to be certain - being in the public eye, having every little thing you do, say, and wear scrutinized constantly. It takes a certain kind of personality to do that job, aside from actual talent.

Idunno, I guess I'm old and mellow. I just shake my head at all this scree.
