This is my take on it. I have a friend whose trans but still uses the pronouns associated with the gender he was assigned at birth because he doesn't want to be switching back and forth all the time depending on if the people talking to/about him know (and can safely be told) he's a woman or not. This kind of thing happens. But I have to know that something like that is going on or I'm going to wonder when someone is being called by the wrong pronouns.
