the wife's kids went to live with their maternal grandparents and were never really heard from again, he ditched his biological son and left him with his also-a-murderer girlfriend too, iirc.

The kids of his wife were shipped off to live with her parents. His kid he kept. Until the finale, at which point

Dexter fakes his death in a tropical storm, leaving his kid to be raised in (I can't even remember what country) by his new girlfriend who is also a serial killer.
